A cheerful heart is good medicine,
but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.
Sometimes in our Christian walk we can feel defeated.
If you sit in that defeat and wallow in it, it certainly can feel like you are shriveling up into a ghost of your former self.
The way to get away from feeling like this is to have a cheerful heart.
Do something that makes your heart happy.
You might be someone who gains joy from helping others and performing an act of kindness.
You might feel uplifted when listening to worship music.
Heck, you might be a person that just needs to watch some adorable puppy videos to get out of your negative feelings.
For many people getting outside into nature and feeling the sun on their skin lifts their spirit.
Whatever things bring you joy and put a smile on your face, do those things.
If you can bring cheer back to your heart it is medicine for your body and spirit.
God commands us to love our neighbors as we love ourselves, so we must first love ourselves to be able to properly love our neighbor.
Take care of yourself today, friend.
- Prayer: God help me to feel joy today. Let your healing waters flow in my life and lift me up in my time of need. I trust that you will answer in your perfect timing and according to your perfect will for my life, but right now I just need to be loved and uplifted. God fill me with your love, compassion, and joy today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
