Did Jesus Meditate? The Importance of Meditation in Jesus’ Life and Ministry

Many Christians today are returning to meditation and are finding their life full of tremendous peace. The question that many are left with is, “Did Jesus Meditate?”

When we think of Jesus, we often picture him performing miracles, preaching to crowds, and spreading the message of love and forgiveness. But did Jesus also practice meditation as a way to connect with God and find inner peace? The answer is a resounding yes.

According to the Bible, Jesus spent a lot of time in prayer and meditation. In fact, he often withdrew to quiet, solitary places to pray and commune with God. One well-known example of this is the story of Jesus’ temptation in the wilderness, where he fasted for 40 days and nights before being tempted by Satan (Matthew 4:1-11). This extended period of fasting and solitude would have required a deep level of spiritual discipline and connection to God.

But Jesus didn’t just meditate during times of crisis or temptation. He made it a regular practice to seek out quiet, peaceful places to pray and commune with God. In the Gospels, we see several instances of Jesus going off alone to pray, even in the midst of a busy ministry schedule. For example, in Mark 1:35, we read that “very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.”

So why was meditation so important to Jesus? One reason was that it allowed him to connect with God on a deeper level. Through the practice of stilling his mind and focusing on God, Jesus was able to hear the voice of the Divine more clearly and receive guidance and inspiration. In John 8:28, Jesus says, “When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am he and that I do nothing on my own but speak just what the Father has taught me.” This suggests that Jesus’ connection to God was so strong that he was able to communicate directly with the Divine and receive teachings and instructions.

Another reason Jesus meditated was to find inner peace and clarity. In a world full of distractions and challenges, it can be difficult to stay centered and focused. But through the practice of meditation, Jesus was able to find a sense of inner calm and clarity that allowed him to navigate even the most difficult situations with grace and wisdom.

Finally, Jesus recognized the power of meditation as a way to teach and inspire others. In the Sermon on the Mount, he says, “When you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you” (Matthew 6:6). Jesus knew that the practice of meditation could be transformative for his followers, helping them to connect with God and find inner peace and strength.

In conclusion, it is clear that Jesus saw meditation as an important part of his spiritual journey. By setting aside time to be alone with God and focus on the present moment, Jesus was able to deepen his connection to the Divine and find inner peace and clarity. His example teaches us the value of making meditation a regular part of our own spiritual practice.

Well sadly most of the stories have no connection to who and what Jesus was really about. Man created the stories about why Jesus was here – but so far from the truth. Because they could not understand what HE was really saying. It was not about the word love – which is so abused today. It has nothing to do with the way the people of earth are going.
His followers all turned against Him when He was killed. It was Mary Magdalene that brought them back and FINISHED TEACHING THEM. They had no clue to the word God. That is why Jesus had to use the word FATHER.
